Jimmy Cliff
1958–present
James Chambers (born 1 April 1948), known professionally as **Jimmy Cliff**, is one of Jamaica's most celebrated musicians. He holds the rare distinction of being a Ska pioneer who successfully crossed over to global reggae fame.
His role in the 1972 film *The Harder They Come* — for which he also recorded the soundtrack — introduced reggae to international audiences years before Bob Marley achieved mainstream crossover success.
Cliff's hits include **"Many Rivers to Cross"**, **"The Harder They Come"**, **"Wonderful World, Beautiful People"**, and a reggae cover of **"I Can See Clearly Now"** (1993). He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.
