Monday JulyOne is International Reggae Day (IRD) so everyone is reminded to wear your Reggae colours, plant a tree, tune into your favourite station and log onto www.ireggaeday.com for a taste of Reggae culture from around the world.

INTERNATIONAL REGGAE DAY (IRD) is a 24 hour global media festival celebrating the Best of Jamaica's creativity and its impact on culture worldwide.  IRD is the first ever calendar event to be officially proclaimed and dedicated to REGGAE music and Jamaica's creative industries.  An internationally recognized annual event, IRD mobilizes the combined power of music, media and technology to create a global REGGAE party on JulyOne.

AWARDS - This year IRD salutes the Honourable Peter Tosh, OJ and the riddim twins Sly & Robbie for their contribution to the development and internationalization of Reggae Music as a global force. 

REGGAEWEAR –  Ten lucky Reggae fans in Jamaica spotted wearing their Reggae Wear and ten lucky overseas fans who post a photo of themselves on the International Reggae Day's facebook page in their Reggae Wear planting a tree for JulyOne, will win an IRD 2013 CD.  Dressing in Reggae colours on JulyOne will not only make you feel better right away, but it will get entitle you to a discount at Bridget Sandals during their special International Reggae Day sale where visitors can enjoy extended shopping until 8pm for that perfect summer gift for your feet.

TUNE IN – Jamaican media will host programme specials on JulyOne in recognition of International Reggae Day including: RJR's Palav on Sunday June 30 (1-4pm); MELLO FM's Barry G Show on Monday JulyOne (1-5:30pm); TVJ's special programming (2am-10:30pm) with a tribute to Bob Marley followed by a repeat of Marcia Griffiths on Layers of Soul and Toots & the Maytals in concert, a Smile Jamaica IRD party and the IRD RootsRockReggae special will air JulyOne.  IRIE FM will mix and blend the best of Reggae IRIE style while BESS FM will present the 'IRD Essential 50' Jamaican Recordings (1956-2006) and host an IRD acoustic session with Raging Fyah, Jesse Royal, Jah 9, Alaine and Duane Stephenson as part of the all day online celebration.  JUICE TV will stream 5 live concerts starting at 12noon on JulyOne.  Other media hosts include CTV, Mega Jamz and Roots FM.

LOG ON - Online at www.ireggaeday.com IRD will kick off a special You Tube playlist of the best of global Reggae content from Sunday at 12noon to Monday at 12 midnight to celebrate with live concerts, documentaries, videos and special features on the roots and branches of Reggae music at home and abroad.  The IRD acoustic session will stream at 8pm powered by BESS FM, JUICE TV and Jamaicansmusic.com.  The festival website features the IRD Top 250 Jamaican Recordings and the 'IRD Essential 50' playlist which highlights some of the most important recordings in Jamaican music over a 50 year period between 1956-2006.

IRD 2013 CD - JulyOne both Raging Fyah and Alaine will release singles with 'First Love' and 'Walkin on Air' respectively on I-Tunes through Zojak International.  Both songs was well as tracks from Jesse Royal, Jah 9, Duane Stephenson, Morgan Heritage, I-Wayne, Gyptian, Kymani Marley, TOK, Kritical, Sleepy Hallowtips and a binghi mix of the classic anthem 'Rise Up' as brawta.

Why do we need an International Reggae Day?  Reggae is the soundtrack for JAMAICA and Reggae is the music the world hears when they think of JAMAICA in any area of achievement.  Reggae is the world's first true global beat with the first true global superstar in Bob Marley and Reggae deserves this recognition.  Global culture has embraced Jamaican creativity, particularly Reggae and IRD invites the world to an annual party hosted by Jamaican media as a reminder of the power, impact and origin of this global phenomenon.
