Major Lazer relives early 90's Dancehall-style Image

With their Free The Universe LP set to be released April 15, Major Lazer turns back the hands of time for the video of their single 'Watch Out For This (Bumaye)' which features Busy Signal.

Diplo, Walshy Fire, and Jillionaire, collectively known as Major Lazer, jetted to Jamaica in early January to shoot the Jay Will-directed visuals. Themed with a '90s-esque street dance feel, the set was complete with 'bashment' girls, massive speaker boxes and of course varying classic dance-moves from that era.

"The video is going to be '90s retro themed - one of the best eras of dancehall music for me. The single has a 'Murder She Wrote' kind of vibes to it so that inspired the concept of the video," Busy told The Jamaica Star few days after the shoot, adding that he went into his own closet for the clothes that he wore in the video which includes a linen suit that he says he wore to a Capleton concert back in the day.

Like a few other Major Lazer's tracks, 'Watch Out For This (Bumaye)' has a pre-history to it; it's an update of a track produced by Dutch house producer The Flexican who sampled Wilie Colon and Ruben Blades' 'Maria Colonza', layering the single in such a way that it sound almost identical to Flexican's original piece but much more danceable with an intense bass drop to keep any party moving.

With Walshy Fire clad in his oversized Shabba Ranks-esque outfit, Busy Signal in his gold-sequin shirt, and Diplo nervously getting a special local razor-blade haircut for the occasion: "You ever cut white dude blonde hair before…kind of dangerous [with] this chair rocking a little bit", the video's premiere should entice for an interesting watch.
