Jamaica's Youth View Awards delivers as promised Image

It came, we saw, it conquered. Staged at the National Indoors Sport Centre on Saturday, February 2, 2013, the immensely-popular Youth View Awards (YVAs) now sits high as one of the most-anticipated nights on the entertainment calendar.

The brazenly creative spectacle stood its grounds as a generational takeover; filled with bold moves mixed with noisy risks, giving younger acts such as Omi the chance to seize the opportunity of distinguishing themselves from what's come before.

Even as they paid meticulous respect to older stars who devised the musical language they're now rewriting, in the end the night's spirit belonged to the future.

From Tifa walking away with four awards and the 'Girl Boss' (Amelia 'Milk' Sewell) standing proxy for the 'World Boss' (Vybz Kartel) – having receiving the award for Favourite Dancehall Artiste (2012) - to RDX and Voicemail having female patron rotating their hips uncontrollably and Bounty Killa's surprise performance with I-Octane for their single 'Badmind Dem A Pree', patrons were found in a 'Jump' frenzy long before welcoming the crowd-surfing anthem 'Chill Spot' and taking time out to reflect on a Bob Marley's legacy.

Arguably the top performances went to an unexpected flash mob-esque dance routine and I-Octane; smashed through with a cacophonous, jubilant showcasing of the reason he walked away with Favourite Cultural Artiste and sharing Celebrity Role Model with the living legend himself, Usain Bolt; prior performances might have displayed itself as monochromatic compared to I-Octane's.

With his dramatized-riddled performances, he effortlessly heralded a standing ovation from patrons whom sang verbatim to his slew of stereo rockers. The sixth staging of the YVAs certainly stayed true to their reputation of creating an unforgettable night which will linger in patrons' minds for the reminder of the year.
