Cali P soulfully chants for the 'Healing of the Nation' Image

by Oneika Francis

In Cali P’s inspiring EP, Healing of the Nation, as the name suggests he seeks to heal the nation with his authentic Reggae delivery. He has accurately captured the sound and nature of true/ authentic Reggae music with his use of acoustic instruments, as oppose to overused synthesizers and predictable compositions; and it works well in his favour.

His 2011 offering, Unstoppable, spun considerably on a more Hip Hop and Dancehall note making Healing of the Nation a refreshing compilation showcasing his spiritual growth as the years pass. As depicted within the cover art, the project is deeply rooted in Reggae, however, it packs a culturally diverse production team including producers Evidence Music (Switzerland), Jugglerz & Junior Blender (Germany) and Pharfar & Jahdil (Denmark).

Without doing any research on Cali P, one would instantly assume him another production of Jamaica. That’s far from it. He is the son of Switzerland and Guadeloupe parentage, born in Switzerland and grew in both countries until at the age of 26 years old when he made Jamaica his home.

Cali P shares this story on the single, Wah Gwaan; relaying glimpses of his life in Switzerland and his uncanny love for Reggae music but it’s on the single My Home that he shines. Channeling an African persona the production embodies a soothing and relaxing nature wrapped in impeccable background vocals and African-infused production.

Healing of the Nation is without a doubt a compelling track that can’t go overlooked. Continuously reverberating the nation’s ability to be healed with music; Cali P’s lyrical composition is most convincing here than ever before. Soulfully and expressively encouraging and uplifting listeners; the project is true to its words; packed with acoustic instrumentation, flawless background vocalists and a message well needed in today’s musical stratosphere.

Cali P surely can alleviate the ails of any Reggae enthusiast.
