Jamaican reggae singer, Shinehead will be in the island to address the students involved in the Diageo Learning for Life Project Artiste programme on Tuesday August 25th.
As a well known figure on the entertainment scene, Shinehead is expected to impart some helpful tips and secrets of success to the students.
solid reputation
Born Carl Aiken, the popular entertainer rose to stardom in the late 1980’s when he released the album Rough and Rugged. He went on to gain a solid reputation in the music business when he was signed to Elektra Records in 1988 with the help of his dear friend, Run DMC.
His popularity soared when he did a cover of Sting’s Englishman in New York titled Jamaican in New York which topped the UK singles charts. Some of his other hits include Strive, Golden Touch, Who the Cap Fit and Try My Love.
workshop
According to Kim Lee, brand manager at Red Stripe, they are extremely thrilled that Shinehead will participate in the next workshop for the students.
“The students involved in Diageo’s Project Artiste are thrilled that Shinehead will address them. He is one of the original dancehall artistes that was signed to a US label during the late ’80s and early nineties. Many of the entertainers of today looked up to Shinehead because of the versatility of his talent. He sang, deejayed and is an all round entertainer,” Mrs Lee said.
“We are thrilled that Shinehead is willing to share some of his sidewalk education,” Lee added.
Three weeks ago, the group was lucky to have had the opportunity to interact with international recording star, Tito Jackson, who was only in the island for a few days after his performance at Reggae Sumfest.
Diageo’s Project Artiste started earlier this year and is the second programme of its kind to be executed in Jamaica. Diageo’s Project Bartender was the first and was a major success. The programme is being conducted in conjunction with HEART Trust/NTA.
