Hundreds of eager fans were rewarded by this year’s Digicel Rising Stars contestants with good performances, at the Old Hope Road, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) branch in St Andrew on Saturday, in the second of four road shows hosted by KFC, an associate sponsor of Jamaica’s most popular talent show.
Sandy Smith, the fifth place winner in the competition this year, kick started the performances. Smith sang Nadine Sutherland’s Rainbow, and Whitney Houston’s How Will I Know. She then made way for the woman with the big voice Adenna Myrie.
Myrie was hoarse, but gave it her best shot. Freddie McGregor’s Just Don’t Want To Be Lonely and Gladis Knight’s Midnight Train her chosen renditions.
bright smiles
When Princess Tia was introduced by chillroom host, Kiki, the children drew nearer to the stage, and with bright smiles on their faces, Princess Tia obliged. She sang Etana’s Warrior Love.
However, no one got a bigger reception than the real diva, Brown Sugar. Brown Sugar told the audience, “Mi cah sleep” and woke them up quickly, with the same dancehall medley that created havoc two Sundays ago at the live studio show.
The male duo Moments, the last men standing so to speak, were the final performers. They gave their female fans something to cheer about. The duo walked to their fans, and serenaded a couple of females, with Pretty Blue Eyes before going on stage to do This Time I Promise.
spiritual rendition
Smith, in her final performance, being eliminated on Friday, closed the proceedings with the spiritual rendition, I’m Persuaded.
The next road show is set for this Saturday in Portmore, at the Portmore Mall.
Earlier, the Rising Stars contestants met their fans, shared a few light moments, posed for photo shoots and signed autographs.
It was also a fun time for the kids from two children’s homes in close proximity to KFC Old Hope Road outlet as children from the Jamaica National and St Augustine Children’s Home met the Rising Stars contestants and were fêted by KFC.
